Option P.E Class

Walt: What level did you play and explain your reasons why?

What was your level last week?
The level that I've played during our games last week was Level 3.

Why were you at that level?
Only because I respect everybody in the team and that I played honest and fair. If I made a mistake, I would admit to it and play by how the rules are laid out. Whenever the teacher is not around or not paying attention, I'll play independently without the teacher not looking.

What do you need to do to be a higher level than you are now?
I have to be able to work with everyone independently but to also compliment and encourage others to try their best. Always take care of the types of equipment and to ask but also provide assistance to teachers and other students. But to also be concerned with the progress of others.

Social Responsibility

Walt: Explaining in your own definition of what Social Responsibility means to you.

What does Social Responsibility mean to you?
Attitudes and Values that can support students in making responsible decisions about behaviours and involving in physical education and health and in their lives beyond school. Values are like being able to accept some things and the way we act. Behaviours are the way we react to the problem or argument.

What level did you display throughout the game & why?
I think I'm Level 3 for self-responsibility because I showed respect to all my teammates and I was honest as well as fair and played by the rules. I would admit my mistake and I'll apologise for any of my mistakes. But I'll also work on activities independently of teachers.

How could you improve your skills for the next lesson?
I can improve my skills by aiming to have a good attitude towards all of the sports and being able to show my values as well as behave in class.

Reflections of Exams

Walt: Write a reflection about how you felt before/after your exams.

Before the exam, I felt pretty good before all of my exams. I wasn't as confident as I thought I was. When I was at home, I only studied for a little while, but at the same time, I was kind of nervous because of the exams. My fear of not studying so much for our exams was to think positive and to overcome myself from thinking nervous.

During the exam, I started to feel alright with the questions being asked. I was nervous at first, the questions we needed to answer, I was prepared for all of them. During our exams, I showed my RISE values. After our exams, I felt like I wrote enough for our exam. I also know that I did enough to get at least a merit or an excellence.

My time in Social Studies have been fun and I enjoyed each and every one of our classes together. My favourite highlight was everything, so I didn't have anything in particular. Everything amazed me and I found things really interesting.

Mince Pie

First, we had to dice the onion and fry until its soft and not burnt.

Then, we needed to add the mince and fry until its cooked.

While were stirring the mince and onion, we had to add mix vegetables and 1/2 of water.

The last bit was to mix pepper, veggie stock and some spices to the pie so that it could add more flavour

Hangi Experience

Walt: Identify the types of energy you could see/hear and add the sentences.

Yesterday our Science class dug up a hole for the Hangi. The containers were prepared. Rather the girls cleaning the vegetables, the boys were cleaning them for us. The energy that I’ve picked up on was heat energy, which reflected towards the sticks that turned into a chemical reaction. This created smoke from the fire.

There were many things that we needed to pack into every single container there was. We had to pack potatoes, carrots, chicken, meat and kumara. We had about 63 containers altogether, as the girls were packing them together, the boys were setting up the fire for the food. You could hear sound energy which created the sizzle from the fire.

Chemical Potential energy was stored inside the wood, which the food would be laid on it and it would be placed inside the food. It was a great and fun experience for the whole class, we all had fun bonding with each other and the whole class was having a great time.

List 3 traits that you know you have?

Walt: List 3 traits that you know you have?

The 3 traits that I know that I have is that I have naturally curly hair, Allergies and I can see the colours red and green. My hair was naturally curly and I got from my mum and dad. I've gained my allergies from the environment. So that means that I'm allergic to pollen from the flowers. Then the last one is that I can definitely see the colours red and green.

Where DNA is found?

Walt: Write a Sentence about where DNA is found?

The cells in the body contains a nucleus, where it contains all the DNA in each individual. The DNA is packaged up as an chromosome. Chromosome's are made of DNA, but these chromosome's are found in the nucleus.

DNA is the code that carries instructions for building living organisms. It is inherited from parents. A section of DNA that has instructions for a trait is called a gene. A gene is the section of DNA that has the instructions for a protein that makes a trait.

In the picture above, you could see an eye cell that has all the DNA in its nucleus, and the gene for eye colour has instructions to make a protein. The DNA of the gene has instructions for green eye colour. The individual has green eyes, because of the instructions in their DNA and in their genes, which is found in every one of their cells.

What & how I learnt the Science behind my traits?

Walt: A description of your Perry the Pear investigation, an image from the investigation.

On Monday, we walked into the class and their was blood everywhere. Last night, the murderer hit Perry the Pear in the head. The only way for us to find the killer was to peel and chop the skin into small chunks, because the skin doesn't have much DNA in it.

We did some steps to remove the DNA from being trapped inside the cells, so that just the DNA is in the juice. Then we used alcohol to chill it and then we could see the white DNA! We found out that Bob the Blueberry was the murderer because he was jealous that Perry the Pear was in a relationship with Sally the Strawberry.

My First Exam Experience

Walt: Write a explanation about your first exam experience that you've had in College.
Explain about what happened before the exams and during the exams.

Before the exam, I felt pretty confident in passing my exam, but once I went into the classroom, my heart started beating faster than before and I didn’t know if I’ll pass or fail my Social Studies exams. These were the feelings that I had inside me before we had to take our seats and set our exams.

My 3 tips that I used before my exams started was that I prepared myself at home before coming to school so I could get that extra boost, after sleeping for awhile, I got lots of knowledge because I have had my rest. During the exams, I ate a little bit of food so I don’t end up getting hungry.

Throughout the exam, I showed the RISE values by listening to the instructions given to us by the teacher that was supervising us and also making sure to give my exam a 100% effort so that I could pass it. But to also make my parents proud about my exams and that I would get good marks on all my subjects that we have had.

These are my 3 tips that I’ve used to keep myself calm before starting my exams, I breathed in and out to keep my heart rate down and made sure to keep myself hydrated every time by drinking lots of water. But I also had to think a lot, then I had to think of the main ideas that I’ve learnt and summarise them inside my head. So I knew what I was going to be writing next.

After the exam, I felt really happy and relieved because I said to myself “I’ve finally finished the exam?” and I stretched out because my arms were starting to get really tired. My confidence started building up because I was brave enough to get through my exam without getting stressed, but also proud because I felt as if I’ve put enough effort into all my exams and I’ll probably get a good mark for it.

After school, I went back home and told my mum everything about the exams that I’ve just finished completing and she was really happy to hear how well the exams went for me. After awhile, I went onto my Chromebook and started talking to my friends on my social media, but none of my friends were online, so I went on YouTube and started watching Buzz-feed Unsolved.

In my next exam, I would change by getting a longer rest and making sure that i’m eating enough food and drinking lots of water. But also that I don’t say to myself “I’m gonna fail?” because I just have to belief that I will pass all my exams and that I’ll get good marks when it comes to my report.

Metal - Pizza Cutter

Walt: Plan out what your making and follow the instructions, given to you by a teacher.

Our task was to plan out on what we wanted to make. We had to choose out of the Pizza Cutter or Cake Server. First we had to fill out the Specifications and the measurements of how we want our chosen idea to be. Then we needed to sketch them out, we could use google images to get some inspiration and some ideas and different designs for our object. We had to grab a piece of metal and make sure it was smooth.

Then we needed to choose two colours that we wanted on our handles, we had to choose between yellow, black, green and red. Once that was finished, we needed to file it, just to make sure that the sides were smooth and their were no marks on them. Once that was finished, we needed to scrap paper of our handlers and use red sand paper to make sure that the handle and the sides were really smooth.

After all those steps, I had to use the red sand paper to get the marks of my cutter, then used the blue sand paper to make sure that the cutter was smooth and you won't hurt yourself with it. Then we used a white container that contained the polishing for metal. We needed to make sure that the metal was shiny enough for us to see our very own reflection.

Once all that hard work was finished, this was the finished project or the outcome after you have completed all the steps. You would be able to see your reflection in it because, that's how shiny your Pizza Cutter or Cake Server would look like in the end.

Microscopes

Walt: "Explaining what I've learnt about how all living things do Mrs Gren?"

Our task was to explain what M.R.S G.R.E.N meant and it needed to be related to our animal that we have chosen. The people in our group was Journey, Daniella and myself, we were working on a lobster. Miss Wells got some cells from each animal and made us look through the microscope to figure out what kind of animal it was. All living things like Trees, Bugs and other insects uses the same thing called "Mrs Gren?" but they do it in different ways. Unlike mechanical things like Cars, they can move and excretion smoke but can't reproduce, only because it's not alive - they only do SOME M.R.S. G.R.E.N things.

Cultural Presentation

Walt: Create a Cultural Presentation about a Tradition you have chosen.

Our task was to choose our own country or island we wanted to research on. The island that I chose was the Tahiti Resort and Spa. I chose this because I really think that the place has a beautiful view and is paradise to most people. Tahiti's Resort and Spa is where you can get away from bad weather and you could relax. Tahiti is like a tropical paradise where you could leave your problems behind you and just chill, enjoying the view. We had to answer some questions that was related to our chosen country or island, then find some images or facts about the place. These are the information's that I have found about the Resort and Spa.

Experiencing Volcano Eruptions

On Friday 23rd March, There was a Earthquake reported and located in Auckland, New Zealand. Before the Volcano could explode, something happened underground, something that human eyes can't see, but can experience and learn about. The Earthquake was caused by magma, which was pushing through the crust.

The bottom of the crust melts and this is caused by something called "Thermal plume." Magma is formed by continuous melting of rock due to high pressure and temperature conditions in the subsurface of the earth. At that moment, a grey smoke started to appear in the sky, that is when a volcano appeared in the middle of the sea.

Steam started to form on top of the water, when hot lava connected with the water, that is when a loud bang came. That is when everybody knew, that a terrible volcano eruption was about to happen at any minute. Scientists did not know about a new volcano appearing under water, so everyone had to escape, before time runs out. "Bang," you could hear citizens running for their lives and evacuating their family to a safe place.

The continental drift was causing New Zealand to move over the hot spot. Grey and black smokes started to emerge from the sea, causing lot's of noise and scaring everyone. I on the other hand, was horrified and trying to get as many people to escape.

Rarotonga Canoes

Our task was to create a presentation of something that is related to the Polynesians travelling around the pacific islands. I chose "The Garden of the Seven Stones," because Aotearoa and Rarotonga has something in common. The Maori people travelled on a waka called "Takitimu" all the way to Rarotonga. The garden of the seven stones all represents stones that the Maori people carved onto rocks, that represents all the seven waka's they have sailed.

Video in Taiwan

Walt: Students are able to complete all work for made in Taiwan video, to go towards blogs.
Image result for polynesia

The main purpose of Oscar and Nathan’s trip was to find where their ancestors were from and where they travelled. Rarotonga and Maori’s might have the same Clan Fathers and the Polynesian people left the Cook Islands 700 years ago.

Samoan people were originally from East Eurasia, before they travelled to South Eurasia. The Lapita Pottery is about 300,000 years old and this is what their ancestors left behind. The burial site is about 600-700 years old and this started way before Rome became a village. The people of Taiwan has a similar tradition from Samoans and Polynesian people.

The traditional Samoan tattoos are sacred like the Lapita Pottery. From my point of view, Oscar and Nathan’s trip was successful because they now know where their ancestors were from and where they travelled too. They are also proud to know where there people came from and where their people first started, before going around to travel the Polynesian world.

Recent Earthquakes

Describe a recent earthquake you read about, its cause (which involves tectonic plate movements like the sandwich model), and the earthquakes effects.

In Papua New Guinea, there was a recent 7.5 magnitude and it was caused by a subduction of one of the tectonic plates. This recent event destroyed homes and triggered landslides. Right now, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea are both included in the ring of fire.

It is called "The Pacific Ring of Fire," The reason being is because it is the most likely place where their are lots of earthquakes and volcanoes that happens. But when it comes to earthquakes, they release something called a seismic wave that looks like rippling water. The first two waves are called P-wave and S-wave.

A P-wave travels faster than the S-wave and the P-wave stretches the earth forwards and backwards as it spreads outwards. S-waves however, is the opposite of P-waves and they move slower than the usual speed. The S-wave arrives second and they travel in a up and down kind of motion. A magnitude means how big the earthquake is and it's also measured from 1 to 10.

Most people get confused with the epicentre, it is part of the earthquake that is placed on the ground and it is also directly above the slip. This means it is where the earthquake slip, happened to the ground. A seismelogists is a scientists who studies earthquakes, their movement and how big their magnitude is.

The only time that earthquakes occur, is when both the tectonic plates underneath the crust slips past each other very quickly. Also, earthquakes under the ocean cause tsunami's. This is what I've learnt about earthquakes and the events that causes and what the aftershock is, once an earthquake or tsunami has passed through a city, country or even a village.

Earth's Core

Walt: Name all the earth's crust.
Our task was to name all of the earth's crust inside and make sure to find a picture that would explain about the earth's layers. Then we needed to explain what the Earth's Crust is and what it does. I learnt lots of things from this and I now know what the jobs are for each of these layers.

Scientific Discovery

Walt: Make a Scientific Discovery about Gondwana.

Today I just made a scientific discovery of a lost continent that was long forgotten, since dinosaur times. New Zealand and a number of other islands are just the tips of huge mountain range that are poking out of the water. Apparently, there is about ninety four percent of the continent is completely submerged. Only about 94% of the continent is completely submerged, which means 94% of it is currently under the water and only 6% is sticking out of the water.

Zealandia is the continent that New Zealand is a part of. It is also the very highest part, that sticks out of the ocean. There is a lot of other land out the side of NZ underneath the ocean that scientists say is thick enough to be called a ‘continent. It was part of a lost continent which is called “Gondwana.” There were also other continents that was part of Gondwana. The countries were split apart by something that Alfred Wegener founded. It was called a continental drift that moved the continents around on top of the mantle.

The continent Gondwana use to exist about 550 million years ago. The other continents that was part of Gondwana was South America, Africa, Antarctica, India and Australia. After the continental drift, all the countries were split up. Even after all the continents were moving so slow, that no even the animals on those islands noticed. After 800 million years ago, beautiful green New Zealand finally broke away from from Australia taking it’s birds and wildlife with it.

New Zealand went out on it’s own a tiny island nation moving far, far, away, from other countries. Around 1300 AD, there was a flightless bird called a “Moa” was one of the most largest birds in New Zealand. The reason why the birds didn’t fly is because they didn’t need to waste their energy on flying. Another reason why is because they were safe on the ground.

But around that time in 1300 AD, Maori people arrived and colonized the lonely island of New Zealand, more were quickly hunted until there were none left, only a hundred years later. Another unusual bird had envolved as the top predator in New Zealand. Then animal was a giant eagle called “Haast’s Eagle or Poakia?” The oral legends of the Maori people tell the tale of a flying beast of fearful hunting powers strong and fast enough to kill a human.

Life continued, though the more Poakia were not the only birds to live here for the millions of lonely years NZ spent by itself. In the last few hundred of years, something has changed in New Zealand, something has arrived and our birds are not prepared to handle it.

Fun facts:

A century ago, there was a birds called a “Moa” is was able to fly. But for each generation, the birds started to waste their energy because they had to drag their big wings along with them. So now the birds don’t have wings, reason being is because it wastes their energy. Moa’s with the smallest wings are most likely the ones to give birth.
