What & how I learnt the Science behind my traits?

Walt: A description of your Perry the Pear investigation, an image from the investigation.

On Monday, we walked into the class and their was blood everywhere. Last night, the murderer hit Perry the Pear in the head. The only way for us to find the killer was to peel and chop the skin into small chunks, because the skin doesn't have much DNA in it.

We did some steps to remove the DNA from being trapped inside the cells, so that just the DNA is in the juice. Then we used alcohol to chill it and then we could see the white DNA! We found out that Bob the Blueberry was the murderer because he was jealous that Perry the Pear was in a relationship with Sally the Strawberry.

  1. Hi Roimata, what an interesting recount. I like that you included the fact the skin doesn't have much DNA in it - that's why you removed it and just used the flesh of the fruit underneath! It was a bit sad we had to kill all the suspects to get their DNA, wasn't it :S I also appreciated the precision you used in your writing; "used alcohol to chill it" although you can always include even more! For example, "remove the DNA from being trapped inside the nucleus inside the cells" or where you said "some" steps, you could say how many or what they included! Thanks for always sharing your learning on your blog.

  2. Hi Roimata
Great to see how much you enjoyed the Murder Mystery, to unlock information, through your recount. Did you find it easier to learn about DNA, through this method of getting you to be Detectives? How did it help your learning or would you rather have just been told about DNA? Can you think of other 'subjects' you could use to find DNA, which would not be harmful to the 'subject'? How did you feel when you saw the bleeding pear and what did you think you were going to do? Keep up with your inquiring mind and eagerness to learn.
