Fast Rust Task

Rust

Task: Work on this Doc together with a partner.

What 3 ingredients are needed for rust to occur.
IronWaterOxygen from the Air

Write a brief paragraph explaining the rusting process (why rusting occurs)
Rust is usually used to refer to a very common, reddish - brown compound called an iron oxide. Iron oxide is formed when iron and oxygen react in the presence of water or moisture in the air. Iron oxide is is very common, because iron reacts easily with oxygen in the air.

How could you prevent something from rusting?
Whenever you get iron, water and oxygen together, you get rust. So the best way to prevent it is to keep them apart, that’s what paint does. Or the spray - on wax and oil coatings that the car protection companies sell. Keep your tools dry and wipe down your bike after a ride. Keep the water away and it can’t rust.

Write 3 sentences explaining something new you’ve learned from this reading.
What I have learnt from the information that I know is that metal can rust really easily unless it is in contact with Iron, Water or Oxygen from the air that flies around us. I have also learnt why rusting occurs is because when you have iron and the oxygen from the air comes and glides through the iron & water is pushing against the iron, it will make the iron rust and turn into a brown colour.
